After getting to know Hildebrand from the motor yacht Troll, a real expert in 3D printing, there’s no stopping us on board either.
Axel buys a 3D printer and some material – called filament – and starts his first printing projects. It’s amazing what you need on board and how easy it is to print. What’s even more amazing is that after just a few weeks, we can hardly imagine how we survived without a 3D printer on board. New ideas for printing projects emerge every day and things that are not available to buy or order as required are simply constructed ourselves. What a great thing!
However, the use of a 3D printer on board requires that the appropriate space is available and that the printer can be positioned so that it cannot slip or capsize. These requirements are certainly easier to fulfil on board a 45-foot catamaran than on a 30-foot monohull.
We use the X1C 3D printer from Bambu-Lab on board. We also order the corresponding material there. Axel uses Shapr software for the design.
